Penguin 90th Anniversary Postcards: 90 Penguin Postcards from 90 years

Each of the 90 postcards in this box represents a unique collaboration between art director, designer, editor, and author, with input from colleagues in sales and marketing. In every case, the aim was to:

• Produce a design that connects with a reader
• Stand out on the shelves and – more recently – online
• Stay true to the spirit of the book and the author’s intentions

That so many of these covers were designed in the last century and still speak so strongly is a tribute to the vitality of this collaboration.

A Celebration of Talent and Design Through the Years

The box showcases the work of a sequence of talented and inspirational art directors and their teams, spanning decades:

• Jan Tschichold in 1947
• Richard Bravery today
• Including names like Germano Facetti, Alan Aldridge, David Pelham, and John Hamilton

Each of these individuals combined their unique talents with the design trends and aesthetics of their eras, drawing on the energy and creativity of wider culture and counter-culture. Over time, they altered the balance between brand identity and the individuality of the book.

A Collection of Penguin General Division Covers

All 90 covers are drawn from the archives of the Penguin General division, a tight-knit group of imprints including:

• Fig Tree
• Sandycove
• Penguin Life

Each imprint publishes in paperback under the Penguin banner. These 90 book designs were chosen collaboratively, and we hope you will find a postcard within for every mood and every occasion.
